LUX Automation GmbH was founded in 2008 and continued the long success story of BEA Elektrotechnik und Automation GmbH (Düsseldorf), a company founded in 1899. As a 100% subsidiary of SMS group GmbH, LUX Automation has been an innovative service provider of integrated automation technology and industrial plant engineering.

In 2025, LUX Automation has been partly integrated into SMS group's lifecycle services, bringing their know-how in process automation, drive technology, and industrial IT into ongoing and future projects. The office of LUX Automation was moved to the SMS Campus in Mönchengladbach.
